This week's Blogger's Challenge is to ALTER something. This is one area that I rarely find myself participating in. The problem is...what to do with those altered things once you make them? {I have a little issue with actually "giving" my projects to people. What if they're not worthy? What if they just throw them away? I KNOW....I need to see someone about this problem...seriously!}
Regardless, here I am with a project to share. I started out to create a card for this week's TCP Tuesday challenge which is "embossing". Easy peazy, right? Not so fast! I created the penguin on the medallion for a card front that just didn't end up working for me. I'm not a "start again" kinda gal though. I can usually salvage something and keep going until the intended project is done. I don't do much throwing away...thankfully! This time, I gave up on the embossing and started working on this little mailbox project. I'm glad that I did too!
I covered my dollar bin mailbox with Cosmo Cricket patterned papers...I already knew that it had to match the medallion. When I was working on the ribbon part I decided that I just had to run to JoAnn's for wide ribbon. I picked up the vine die in the Sizzix section while there...kinda reminds me of mistletoe. I didn't end up using the wide ribbon that I bought today...duh....I went ahead with Plan A and used some yummy striped ribbon from SU!
On a side note, I subscribe to quite a few blog feeds. Today, one came across in my email from Dawn McVey's blog...she does amazing things with bold color that I always admire. Today's post contained a card with thess lovely paper flowers. {You can see Dawn's post HERE.} She found a tutorial for these on Wendy Smedley's blog. I gave it a try with some old book pages but they, unfortunately, disintegrated...too old, oh dear. So, I decided to use some sparkly red paper that was in my stash. I like it! I'm gonna have to try some more so don't be surprised to see more of these on my cards too...ha ha! {Dawn's already selling some made up ones in her Etsy store!}
Oooh, don't want to forget to mention that the penguin that I used is from THE CAT'S PAJAMAS set, PENGUIN CHRISTMAS. AND....Alma's having a sale that starts tomorrow and runs through the weekend - 25% off internet orders. Don't miss out, friends!
Happy Thanksgiving too!
Very cute! Love all the paper and elements.
