CPS SKETCH 112

I decided to give the CPS sketch a try this week.  They're on week number 112.  Wow!  That's a lotta sketches.  It's fun to see what everyone does with a sketch and how different it can be interpreted by different minds. 

I had some new stamps that came in over the last few weeks and they were just dying to be inked up.  Have you seen the STAMPENDOUS robots?  These are really "must have" in my book...they're "outta this world" cute!  There are two sets that have robot parts and I used both of those here on my card - Spot's Botz and Hot Botz.  Then, there's a set of sentiments - Botz Quotz, and a set with sentiments and rocket/space ships - Hot Rockets.  And if you're getting all of that, you might as well just get the Changito In Space set too.  Now you have it all!  I'm all about enabling....

I stamped various robot heads - including the little robot dog head - for my diagonal strip.  This fun paper is from the Cogsmo collection by Cosmo Cricket.  I'm diggin' the bright colors.  I found these screw head eyelet thingies in my stash and added them for some "robot parts" feel.  The big ole button is by Creative Imaginations.

CHEERS POLLY!

I just love all of Anna Wight's images for Whipper Snapper.  That gal is soooo talented!  I bought "Polly" here a few months back.  She reminds me of my sister.  She used to have those pigtails when she was a little girl.

This card is for a challenge swap with one of my Yahoo groups.  The inspiration was this fancy shmancy cake.  THAT CAKE looks so yummy.  I'm not sure where the original photo came from by it makes me think of the ACE of CAKES.  I love that show and the fact that it's filmed right down the road in Baltimore.  Who knew they could do all of that with CAKE!

TECHNIQUE JUNKIE - CARD OF THE MONTH - APRIL - WAXY CUTTLEBUG

It's time again to try a new technique!  For the subscribers to the Technique Junkie newsletter, it's time for another Card of the Month challenge.  And look at how vibrant and colorful these backgrounds are...so fun! HAPPY ST. PATTIE'S DAY!

   

    One more with the gnome for now.  This is for my very Irish friend, Kerry Donovan-Casey.  The one sticking point is that she's dead against saying "St. Patty"!  It's supposed to be "St. Paddy's"!!  Sorry, Kerry...this is what the stamp said!

    And this is a non-traditional colored St. Paddy's Day card.  I finally found some of the new Basic Grey Two Scoops paper at my local scrapbook store.  They didn't have any of the packs or the 6x6 pads so I had to pick and choose my favorites.  Don'tcha just love Basic Grey?  It's all so fabulous!  (They have a whole bunch of NEW packs coming out too....oh dear...there goes more of the college fund!)  This particular paper is called Ice Cream Parlor. 
    When I was stamping my line of gnomes for the card below I made a mistake in the spacing and had to start again.  I salvaged these three little guys to use on this card.  I painted them with the Twinkling H2Os and spiffed them up with the Souffle pens just like the ones below.  (I liked that pattern!)
    I used textured papers from DCWV and a bit of Soft Sky CS behind the image.  The ribbon is from Martha Stewart's seam binding line at Michael's.  The little shamrock was actually a Doodlebug flower.  I cut off one of the petals and removed the flower center.  I pulled the white stem across an inkpad to color it green and then glued it back together.

GNOME CAN CAN

    Well...at least I amuse myself!  I stamped all of the gnomes in a line and it instantly reminded me of a line of Can Can dancers...hee hee.  GNOME Can Can Dancers!  (Think Wizard of Oz..."we represent the lollipop kids....) Not funny?  Oh well....
    This card is for a one-for-one swap with one of the gals in my SSUS swappers group.  Thankfully, she allowed me to use any supplies that I wanted and not all SU!  The theme for the challenge was 'green' and I'm not sure that you could get much 'greener' than this.  Out came the gnome...love him!  These gorgeous patterned papers are by Reminisce and are in the Greenday collection.  They have some sparkle in the paper and are so fun.  I stamped the gnome line on Papertrey white cardstock with Onyx Black Versafine ink and painted them with Twinkling H2Os to match the patterned papers.  The lighter green paper had just a hint of green-blue in one of the lines so I brought in that color and I was thrilled with how they turned out.  I then added a bit of whimsy with some Sakura Souffle pens to create patterns on their hats.  I dug out - and I do mean 'DUG' - a Sizzix paddle punch (does anyone still use these?) from my closet and used that to create the holes for the ribbon 'belt'.  The ribbon matched perfectly and I have no idea where it came from originally.  The silly sentiment was created on the computer.

BLOGGER'S CHALLENGE #37 - SHAPED CARD

    Here we are at Friday again!  This week's Blogger's Challenge was to create a card using a non-traditional shape...meaning no 4.25" x 5.5" cards!  You will be amazed and you will giggle like crazy when you see what some of the gals came up with this week.  Too funny!  As always, click on the BC logo on the right to go to the list of challengers and see what they've created.
    I pulled a bunch of St. Paddy's (that was for you Kerry) Day paper from my stash earlier in the week and set it aside to use with this stamp.  I've never been a big gnome person but for some reason I'm enamored with these guys.  And lots of others are too...I've seen quite a few projects made with them in the last weeks.  I had planned on making a round card with my Nestabilities dies but since I couldn't get myself together before now, I lost the race and one of the other gals did just that...a round St. Paddy's card!  Back to the drawing board....
    Not sure where this idea came from but I started thinking 'beer' and I had seen some cards using acetate/transparencies in a magazine last night and that got me moving.  I just kind of eyeballed a pilsner type glass shape and cut it from a folded piece of acetate.  I added the mustard colored Bazzill CS to the inside back portion of the card and cut some white textured CS to make the foam.  I adhered that to the ouside of the acetate and added some Dazzling Diamonds for sparkle.  I stamped the Gnome Clover (V145 Stampendous) image on watercolor paper cut into an oval shape with the Nestie die and watercolored him with SU! dye inks and a waterbrush.  He's got a little sparkle on his beard and a quick doodle line around the oval.  I layered that to a scalloped oval and added eyelets to each side.  That's adhered to the front of the beer glass with dimensional tape and I threaded a neat ribbon around to add some more color.  The sentiment is by A Muse and I tied the little flag onto the side of the card with SU!s gold cord through some eyelets.
     The acetate is fairly flimsy and I need a little more stability so I added the silver bottom pieces to each side of the card and wrapped a little more ribbon around that.
    I think it turned out pretty cute!  Hmmm...now is there anyone in my family that's worthy?....OH!  thought of one....and since she's without a computer these days it should be a surprise.  Just have to get it in the mail....and that's a whole 'nother issue...ha!

WISH BIG GNOME

    Here he is again...can you tell that I love this little guy?  I wanted to try this week's color challenge at Splitcoast.  They're up to CC#155 and the combo is Basic Black, River Rock, and Whisper White.  I exchanged some watercolor paper for the white and added patterned paper.  (I almost can't make a card these days without it!) 
    The gnome is from Stampendous and the cupcake, candle, and sentiment are all separate stamps from A Muse.  I watercolored the images with SU! dye inks and a waterbrush and then added some sparkle with a Sakura Stardust Glitter pen (fabulous...YOU MUST HAVE ONE!)  I love the 'understated celebration' look that this card has.  The patterned paper is from a 6x6 Basic Grey pad from the Periphery collection.  And I, again, did the 'knotted ribbon corner' thing that I've CASED from Jeanne Streiff.

BLOGGER'S CHALLENGE #35 - COLOR CHALLENGE

    This week we have a color challenge - create a card using Stampin' Up!'s Purely Pomegranite, Brilliant Blue, and Old Olive.  I can't remember the last time that I used Brilliant Blue and I don't think I had ever used Purely Pomegranite but I can say that Old Olive is a staple for me.  Gimme those earth tones any day of the week!

    I had to have this little Gnome from Stampendous in my collection.  (I recently bought another one that has him sitting on a mushroom and holding a clover for St. Patrick's Day.)  Cute, cute, cute!  Here he's shown in his very finest designer Gnome clothes.  Seriously...take a look at any of those high fashion mags and you'll see...NOTHING in their outfits match either!!  (We recently redeemed some unused airline miles for some magazine subscriptions.  The selection was fairly limited...at least for me...and I chose Harper's Bazaar and Elle.  There is NOT one redeeming thing in those mags for me...the outfits are outrageous and the rest is so not for the 'regular' woman.  Maybe it's just me but I don't get it!  I digress...)
     I colored my little guys in with Prismacolor Markers and I printed the sentiment out onto pomegranite cardstock from the computer.  The patterned paper is from a $1 pack at JoAnn's by KI Memories.
    We're 'supposedly' gearing up for some snow tonight and tomorrow.  We've got out fingers crossed since we've had a really mild winter here in MD.  Hopefully we'll have a snow day and I can do nothing but stamp!  I hope you all have a great weekend and don't forget to click on the Blogger's Challenge logo to visit the other BC blogs.  We, again, have some new members this week!

MORE PEEK-A-BOO BABIES!

**EDIT 1/29/08**  I decided to take the big step and submit this card for publication.  This is a big first for me so keep your fingers crossed.
   

I couldn't resist stamping a few more babies before I put this set away to move on to other things.  I DO LUV DA BABIES!  I did some masking here so that they could sit together.  And if you look closely you'll see where I didn't stamp the 'chicken baby's' hat close enough to his head.  ACK!  That's why he has hair.  (You probably wouldn't have noticed that if I didn't point it out.)
    The babies are, again, from the Stampendous set called Peek-A-Boo Baby (see prior post for a pic of the whole set).  The 'happy baby' sentiment is from A Muse and 'welcome little one' is from one of those Studio G sets that came from the dollar section at Mike's.  The patterned paper is in the Oh! Baby Girl collection from Basic Grey.  All were colored with my new-found favorite tool (Thanks Tracy Falco for pushing me to get those things out!), my Prismacolor Markers.
